White or light yellow powder, the specific color depends on the oxidation state of cerium, with a high melting point (>1500°C) and excellent high-temperature stability. It is insoluble in water but soluble in strong acids (such as concentrated sulfuric acid and nitric acid). Its structure is similar to that of natural monazite (CePO₄), belonging to the monoclinic crystal system. Lanthanum (La³⁺) and cerium (Ce³⁺) occupy rare earth sites within the crystal, forming a dense structure with phosphate groups, exhibiting high chemical stability and radiation resistance

(1) Catalyst and catalytic carrier, automobile exhaust purification, cerium (Ce) oxygen storage capacity (OSC) can adjust the oxygen content in the exhaust gas, used in three-way catalyst (TWC), to promote the conversion of CO, HC and NOₓ; oxidation reaction catalyst, catalytic dehydrogenation of alkanes, CO oxidation and other reactions in petrochemical industry.

(2) Fluorescence and luminescent materials: After doping rare earth ions such as Eu³⁺ and Tb³⁺, they can emit fluorescence of specific wavelengths (such as CePO₄:Tb³⁺ emitting green light), which is used in LED and display backlight.

(3) Ceramic and coating materials: high melting point and low thermal conductivity make it suitable for aero-engine coatings. Corrosion-resistant ceramics: used in nuclear reactors or chemical equipment for acid resistant and high temperature components.

(4) Nuclear waste solidification: The structure of the sole stone can stably accommodate radioactive elements (such as uranium and plutonium), reducing the risk of nuclear waste leakage.
